備前岡山の吉井川にある倉安川水門 (The lock of Kurayasu canal)

Kurayasu canal (Kurayasu river) was digged in 1679 by Nagatada Tsuda who was a chief retainer of the Okayama clan. The lock of Kurayasu canal is a device for raising and lowering boats between stretches of water of different levels on Yoshii river and Kurayasu canal. It consists of two locks, the first(outer) and second(inner) lock. To keep a water level of Yoshii river being constant, a weir was built at the same time with locks. It can be seen in the middle of Yoshii river, in the southeast direction from the lock.

倉安川水門は吉井川（岡山県の東を流れる）に築かれた石積み堰とセットで江戸時代に作られたのだそうです。石積み堰は水門から南東の方角に見えます。

これは旧道、つまり外側の水門の上の道から内側の水門を写したものです。昔ながらの風情が楽しめます。倉安川が出来た頃、池田の殿様が川船で吉井川から旭川まで船旅をしたそうな。江戸時代の山陽道の吉井川橋はちょうどこの付近に架けられていたはずですので、旅行く人の目をなぐさめた事でしょう。Standing on the first lock and viewing Yoshii river. これは上と同じ地点から、水門外側に新しく建設された道路を写したものです。水門の外側が道路によってきれいに吉井川と隔てられています。

少し向きを変えて写した写真です。水門外側には水がありません。倉安川水門跡となって、もはや水門の役目を終えています。

ここから吉井川の中に見える、石積み堰がセットになって灌漑用水路を流れる水位を一定に保っていました。その石積み堰もかつての破壊の名残をとどめています。
