備中国分寺

Bicchu Kokubunji is one of the temples having been erected by the ancient authority, a beautiful empress Koumyoshi. Many Kokubunji temples had vanished during a long while. The temple is rare case that has tossed about by angry waves of history and has survived.

　備中国分寺は未だに一度も訪れた事が無いと思っていました。でも、案内板を見てみると近くに「こうもり塚」があるというではないですか。「こうもり塚」ならば50年程前に来た覚えがあります。という事は、国分寺にも来たはず。
どうも印象が薄かったんでしょうね。国分寺の西に建つ五重塔を写真に収めました。桜が奇麗でした。そうそう、駐車場は裏手にあるんですねぇ。
国分寺から200m東に前方後円墳の「こうもり塚」があります。
Ancient Japanese burial mound has a characteritic shape. A round and square mound are united to form one unique shape. Koumori-Zuka is such an old burial mound, where is sited nearby Kokubunji temple.

道を歩いて行くと菜の花畑の向こうに古墳の横穴の入り口が見えます。案内板がありました。
In the early days of ancient tomb, structure of tomb is simple only digging a hole vertically into the mound. Then gradually changed to digging a cave into the side of a mound, just like Koumori-Zuka.

横穴を入ると鉄柵があり、その向こうに石棺がありました。あれま！いつの間にこんな鉄柵ができたのかな？
50年も経てばいろいろ変わるものです。その当時の記憶では石棺は阿蘇の凝灰岩で作られたと聞いた覚えがありました。えらく遠方から石を運んだものだなぁ、と感心した覚えがあります。でも、今回案内板の説明を読んでみると、近所の石を使ったと書いてありました。
